What You Think of the Cross Determines your Wisdom or Foolishness

I Corinthians 1:17-31

Knowledge is the collection of things that you know.  Wisdom is the power or ability to properly use what you know.   A person may know a damaging fact about someone.  That is knowledge.  Wisdom is the decision to tell it to others or keep it to themselves.  Our teens get the chance to hear all sorts of things about Jesus in our services and classes.  Their knowledge of who Jesus is gets fed regularly.  Our greatest gift to our young people as parents and spiritual leaders is to demonstrate the wisdom of putting the cross of Christ first in our lives.

The pressure to study and go to college is on them in their high school years.  The teachers of worldly information put great credibility on grades and degrees.  While they should do the best they can, and we should encourage them, it is vital that they understand God’s truth about the wisdom of words (I Corinthians 1:17) and the influence of worldly wise people.  While they will seek to preach that that the cross and the crucifixion of Christ is foolishness, God has already shown the wisdom of this world to be false in both Old and New Testaments (I Corinthians 1:19-20).  Whether our young people end up was wise or foolish will depend solely on what they think of the cross, and what they think of the cross will depend largely on what we think of it.
