VBC Sunday Morning Service 12/2/18
Love what this passage talks about today here and I was they saying they're you know, one of the ways that you would hear that song even better and sang it not just knowing the truths of the word but knowing the people saying it, you know, the know being and Kristen as a married couple that works with our the middle school students and then the know the testimony of the other ones here or to know that Andrew was out late last night helping with the Littlefield a wedding and.
He got in late, but he was still back there doing his job. And that's what it sounds you enjoy church more when you know, the individuals that make up all that you're saying is love it. I just love church. And so I'm guilty when I read the Bible to prepare have the opportunity to preach the look for this.
I look for things that help preserve the unity inside of the church because honestly, it's one of my favorite things in all the world. I just love church and I have ever since I was a teenager. Didn't grow up with my dad very involved in my life. So the men of the church filled that role for me and I just love it every bit of it when I was a teenager and I was removed couldn't go to church for 30 days.
I was in the hospital the thing that I wanted to get back to more than the basketball court or anything else is I just wanted to get back to my church family. I just love it so much and this passage is going to help us keep the good things that's happening around here and even take it to another level how we treat other people is always determined by what we think about.
God so I just remind you. Those are maybe new to our series that all this started off with the man named Nehemiah who was a cupbearer. He wasn't a political giant. He wasn't a God great influence. He was just the man doing his job and he had an opportunity that he could take because of the job that he had.
He had an audience with the King and he saw there was a problem and he took an incredible risk. To get the story going and started and we saw us Pastor talked about he said that prayer to God then it goes before the king and it's incredible what God has done what God's allowed the sea up to this point in the story and the building is a very unlikely beginning but now things are really moving.
So in chapter number 4 we have the opposition. From the outside sanballat and tobiah they come and they're mocking them and they deal with it. So when we end the chapter number 4, they're not only building a wall, but they also have weapons in their other hand because they say you may attack us.
But we're not going to stop and the unity of that group of people working together shoulder. The shoulders Pastor talked about a sermon that Steven preach when he was younger how they worked side by side in the work such a powerful thing the know that the they knew who the enemy was the enemy was on the outside.
They knew what their mission was and look at how chapter number four ends here says, so neither I nor my brother and or my servants nor the men of the garden which followed me none of us put off our clothes saving that everyone put them off. For washing you've ever been to church camp, you know what this looks like.
They just wear the same clothes all the time until they were told by their moms that they're going to have to wash their clothes meaning that they just worked Around the Clock in the fight together looking out through the other they were totally given to it. That's how a wall with this size gets built in 52 days.
Everybody's involved giving their whole lives to the cause and now the opposition comes and it comes from where we shouldn't we shouldn't expect them. But so many times it comes and it comes from the inside here. So when we end of chapter number four they were working on a wall and they were working diligently, but now the work stops.
There's no wall building a chapter number 5. So as we know another no more bricks for being late in chapter number 5 at this point. It's a stops and they have to deal with some challenges here. So I want us to look at challenges of life together verse number one. We've already read that it says and there was a great Cry of the people and other wives against their Brethren the Jews.
So here we hear about the whole family before have been these men working on the wall. Now we're hearing this great cry that's coming. From the entire family here. What was happening was they were working but the family farm was being ignored the needs that they had inside of their home and in their personal lives were being ignored and they've got to a place for this as a problem maybe as a problem the first week but by the second week, there's people and there's complaints that are happening and I went to you as you think about this and I want you to think about the story in the book of Acts and how the early church was growing and the mission that was going on.
And how we see them selling things and providing for one another how it says they're all in one Accord doing the work together even to a point when ananias and Sapphira were selling their house saying I'm going to sell my house so we can keep help taking care of people and going forward and we know the the ships in that happened there, but we know this total commitment their whole lives had evolved around the mission not only do they care about the work they were doing but they cared about one another and we see that in the book of Acts.
We see this interesting them comparison here, but apparently in the amount of chapter number 5 there were people that work together on the wall, but they weren't people that were caring about each other and their home life and in some of the burdens that they were carrying and it doesn't go very long.
We don't work together very long unless we truly care care for one another and the MI5 to says for they were that said we are our sons and our daughters are many therefore we take up corn for them that we might eat. And live they have the stop the work because it's now time to take care of some of the problems.
They were having at home. I just remind you. Once again, this is a 5252 Day project. It's long, but it's manageable. They could work together and they could keep things going the could have kept the wall being built if they would have just work together and cared for one another important verse a verse of the can very important to me here lately sure with the teenagers a few weeks ago Philippians chapter number 2 verses 19 and 20.
Paul talking to Timothy and he talks about what's needed inside of the church and what he needs him to do Philippians 2:19 says but I trust in the Lord Jesus the center Mo theist shortly unto you that I also may be of good Comfort when I know your state for I have no man like-minded who will naturally care for your state.
Paul said it brings me Comfort and he says in this book over and over in Philippians over again, it brings me joy. The see one another you take care of each other and the qualification that Timothy needed that he was going to go serve that church was you have to be the kind of person that looks around and when you see a need you don't turn a blind eye to it, but you walk over there and you say can I pray with you?
What's going on? How can I help you? I heard this was going on and he naturally cared for their state if you're that type of person here today. Can I tell you thank you so much. What we were able to do as a church moves forward because people care for one another we're able to continue in the work of the Lord because people care for one another and so they have some problems they seem kind of extreme but kind of things we deal with today one of them.
The first one said hey, I'm having problem with food because I got so many kids. All right families big. I got so many mouths to feed. I got more mouths to feed than I have kids some of you in here could say Amen to that. Alright, and so that was the first one because they are. I have to do something about this.
I have to provide food for my family and that's something that every one of us deal with right we have to provide for the needs of our family the second one here. They had a mortgage problem. All right, you're having a mortgage problem today. I can refer you to some friends. Okay, you have that a mortgage problem.
The mortgage was we have two mortgages. Our homes to get food. Yes, that's kind of like a reverse mortgage or something, but they had to mortgage their homes so that they can get food. And then the third one this is a problem we all deal with as well. It's taxes. They said we have to pay the taxes that were still paying back there to where we come from.
We got two syntaxes to them and then it seems even more extreme here. We are going to sell our children the pay our taxes some of you are saying I didn't even know that was an option. All right, I wouldn't put that on your paper and April, okay. I'm sorry. Mr. Gus government Uncle Sam. I can't pay you but here's Thatcher.
All right, that was an option. They're dealing with and and then it said that they'd already bought back some of the people and then they're going to do it again and it's just awful and I love the extreme parts of the the story. They'll test if it's like a pressure cooker. You can just say you see where it starts off and you see where it goes.
And you said well, I'm never going to get to this place in my life where I'm not selfish, but you see where it starts and you can also see where it could go and you know, if you're somewhere in the middle. You're either going to repent and go this way or there's just no telling how far your sin and selfishness could take you here.
And so this Mission requires us to stay very close together as it says in the Amaya shoulder the shoulder we are made to live together in a community working together, even though there's difficulties. This is the way God designed it and I love it and I believe you do as well. I read this week about a pro poker player.
That is he took a. That he can lock himself in a dark room for 30 days for $100,000. How many of you think you could handle 30 days in the darkness for $100,000? All right jinns and Lang. I'll put you all together. That would be great. I'll be reality TV show right there jinns and laying in a locker for 30 days $100,000.
You know, some of you I wouldn't mind like 24 hours long nap would be kind of nice. But 30 days of it there because we know we're not made the live like that. We're not made the live in isolation. So the idea about it is terrifying here David the boy and Zach and I read through a book together and I know others John and others have read it called life together, but either Bonhoeffer and there's a quote that I just love buy it.
I'm going to read it here. It's got some teeth to it. Okay, when I read it slowly here, but it says this the serious Christian set down for the first time. In a Christian Community is likely the bring with him a very definite idea of what Christian life together should be and to try to realize it but God's Grace speedily shatters such a dreams, which is this that we had tried to have this idea of what it's supposed to look like how our brothers and sisters in the church are supposed to treat us how our family supposed to treat us what it's supposed to look like and we try to make everything fit inside of that box and if it doesn't fit inside of that box, then we walk away from.
But what God says is my plan for your life and my plan for my church is so much greater than what you even dreamed of it is so much better. It's so much more Rich. It's just a wonderful thing that we get to share life together and I am sorrowful for people. Who spend their whole lives going from one place to another one group of friends One Church to another always trying to find this perfect image of a Christian Community and then walking away because it doesn't meet this idea.
That they have but what God has a so much better here. God works through this closeness. I love weddings. I love cake. I love friends. I just love everything about him and what I like about I like marriage. I like the gospel and I like cake that's basically a wedding, right? And so yesterday at Luke and Cameron's wedding there.
It's always fun to be with church family outside the walls of the building and see that we're more than just for church family really see us there as family but one of the quotes that didn't make it in the wedding because it's just a little too intense as this one. It says marriage is the operation by which a woman's vanity.
And a man's egotism are extracted with and without anesthetic. All right, let me read that again marriage is Operation by which a woman's vanity and a man's egotism are extracted without. That God puts people together and he says I'm not only going to make you happy trip by having wife named Stephanie, but I want to use her to make you holy.
She is going to drag you closer to God Kicking and Screaming if he has to all right, and so we work in each other's life and we see that in marriage and we should see that in marriage It's a Wonderful purpose in it, but sometimes it hurts, right? That we not only that what we see in the first few years of marriage.
It isn't just what you see in your spouse. But it's what you see in yourself that so concerning that I'm reminded of how selfish I am as a person many times when I look at what I take and I take and take from my wife without giving. Arkham our church life together has the same sanctifying effect together when we work together and when we see I take and take from this person taken take from this ministry.
I never say thank you. I never offer to get involved in here. It tells us something about it. It tells us that we're consumers here and we just take and take and this checklist of all the things we need. It's a wish dream and I'm thankful that God shatters it so I'd like to encourage you here.
Let's take a step forward and greater involvement in the life of the church. And I'm not just saying in signing up for one of the Ministries at the bulletin will talk about I'm talking about just spending time together with your church family throughout the week studying the Bible enjoying each other's company got a little riddle here for you if three frogs sit on a log and one decides to jump.
How many are there on the lawn? There are three because the siding the jump is not jumping right if there's three frogs on the log and one decides to jump and how many are on the log there's three on the log because they didn't do it. And let me tell you if you have thought about that. When should I run that one by my wife?
That's what that's what that look she's giving me right now there. But if you think you're gonna do something if you think about greater involvement in the church, if you think about going out to eat with somebody or getting together with them you think about discipleship that's not doing it. All right.
Some days are great time to think about doing things but Monday's agree better time for executing and doing it. Okay, and I'll tell you I love this. I love the church. And so I do look for this at scripture, but I believe I'm finally here and nehemiah's reaction to the way they were treating each other.
He's going to say the way you're treating each other. It's ugly and so uncalled for and it represents the fact that you're not walking in the fear of the Lord because the way we treat each other shows the way we are thinking about God. So I'd encourage you to get more involved number to the accusation and the response of the people so they were accused of extreme selfishness here verse number 7 use it Usery during the time of a famine then I consulted with myself and rebuked the Nobles and the rulers and said unto them.
Ye exact Usery every one of us brother and I said a great assembly against them. We could turn the Leviticus and Deuteronomy and we can learn about usury and it's kind of confusing at times to figure out what was right for them in the guards of interest and what's right to sell and all that. But what we need to know about this passage is whatever they were doing it was wrong and they knew it was wrong of mediately when he said what you're doing is wrong so they didn't have to pull out a calculator and say no I was running the numbers just a little bit too high.
They knew they were taking advantage of people example, is it wrong for us to have a company a Christian company? I would sell soup. Certainly not. All right, but when Jacob sells soup to his brother Esau when he is starving every one of us. No, that's not what God would have for us to do that. We Jacob was not to sell the soup to his brother for his Birthright and that's what we're dealing with right here.
During a time of famine during the time of real suffering. They didn't look at a stranger, but they looked at their brothers and said I'm going to take advantage of this situation situation and so no business and no person which to live off of that model exploring exploiting the poor and taking advantage of people of their and so they're in a time of famine.
They take advantage of the brothers. Once we decide the value ourselves over others, there is no limit to what we will do to preserve our. At their expense verse 8, and I said to them we after our ability have redeemed our brother in the Jews which were so done to the Heathen and will even sell your brother and or shall they be sold on the US you're even talking about making them sell their brother and into slavery.
We've already bought them back in you're willing to do that and it just seems it's mind-boggling to me that their selfishness would go that far, but when you make a decision in life that it's me versus you, There's just no limit to it. Have you seen it in your life? Maybe if you're married in here, maybe in a friendship that you find yourself and you just look at yourself and said I can't believe I was that selfish.
I can't believe that I put my needs that much higher than somebody else and that's what's happening here. Because when you say I'm going to preserve myself versus everybody else. You've already made the decision that you're gonna do, whatever it takes to look out for number one. We know for 1st Timothy Chapter 6.
What is at the root of all evil? Well certain verse number 9 it says but they that which that will be rich and fall into temptation and a snare into many foolish and hurtful lusts which drown men in destruction and Perdition For the Love of Money is the root of all evil which while some coveted after they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
When you think about this, I would encourage you don't think about currency because that changes from culture to culture and time the time it may look like an American dollar here. It looks like a peso and another place looks like something else may look like a chicken. It may look like an egg in another time of History.
It is looks like what were bartering with right? That is the problem is that hand that is reaching for whatever comes its way. It's that desire to have and the take that never stops that coveting that is there that desire to have and some have changed our understanding of God. To accommodate their desire to have here is talking about Timothy.
We're talking about a specific group of people that have aired from their faith here that their coveting and their selfishness. Has led to them changing the way they think about God they have erred in their faith because their view of God that tells them to be loving the be gracious and be generous doesn't fit with their desire to have and the take so one of the two things has to give right either stop being this type of person or I stop worshipping this type of God and they make the decision.
I'm going to air from the faith and I'm willing to compromise. And I'm going to say things like I don't think God really cares about this or our desire to get gain causes us to lose focus on who God is and how we treat other people. I think that I could handle a large amount of money, you know until I play Monopoly and I get in the lead and then I have a lot of money and I realize it wouldn't be good for Trump to have a whole lot of money because I would build apartments on everything all of you have okay, I would take your railroads.
I would be very vicious if I was in lead here in life there. Have you ever been to one of those Christmas gift exchange, you know, you all buy a $5 gift you put it in the middle. None of you want any of the things until the game starts, right, but when the game starts and. Fighting with your aunt over a fleece blanket you realize we have a problem.
How many fleece blankets do you really need? And the answer is all of them. All right, you need a room that when you walk into it. You're just completely covered in fleas wakens, but because why do you need it? It's not just needing it. It's not they don't have it as well. Right? It was not even as fun.
If you all walk out. Everybody gets one. You need that fleece blanket that everybody else wants in that room and it's funny Christmas time. But it destroys our life the rest of the year, doesn't it? We're not even sure why we want it anymore, but we know we have to have it and we need it and I'm willing to do whatever it takes from you but we talk about money and we talk about fleece blankets, but let's talk about something else that we really got our lives wrapped around and that's our time because you I can waste my time but Jim's don't waste my time.
Okay, you're all right. I can waste my time. But if you waste my time, how mad do you get when somebody makes you Waifs? Ten minutes how because it's so selfish of them. Do they have any idea. Do you have any ideas I can read what I can accomplish in 10 minutes. I mean, they've been unbelievable if I didn't have to wait for David for those ten minutes.
Starbucks when we're meeting together what I would have done I probably would have found the cure to some problem in this world here if I just had those 10 minutes because you're 10 minutes. You stole from me is so valuable, but I give it away all the time. I live flippantly with my time many times it give it away all the time, but I don't allow people to take my time.
Now I can't get with you because I don't want to give up that time. No, I can't make that visit because I don't want the time now. I can't make that drive and we can't get together because you don't know how much value I have placed upon my time. But when we look at our time, we either look into ourselves and our own pleasure Dome Comfort.
We look at that other person and we say you are very much worth. Whatever I can give to encourage you here. So these people are fighting right they're saying I'll take from you and now you got a mortgage is plays. So now you got to pay the taxes. They could have worked together and made a plan to work for 52 days.
I don't know what it would have looked like but I've seen it happen. In other times in the Bible. They could have worked together and come to an agreement. That would have helped everyone I'm here. And so there were they were silent and verse number 8. And I said unto them. We after our ability have redeemed our brother in the Jews which were sold on to the Heathen.
And will you even sell your brother and or shall they be so done to us then held they have their peace and found nothing the answer. That's the place. You always want to be at right when the person who says I ain't got nothing to say feel pretty good about that. Right Nehemiah told them what they were doing and they said they responding with we just have nothing the answer here.
You're right. They knew what they were doing was wrong. They have been taken advantage of one another Leviticus 25 17. You shall not therefore oppress one another but Thou shalt fear thy God for I am the Lord your God. I love this verse here because you see the two things brought together. You shall not oppress one another but what you should do is you should fear God.
It doesn't say you shouldn't press a people and you should love them. It says the opposite of oppressing people is fearing God because the two things are connected because how you view God will determine how you treat other people and they give back what has taken Nehemiah and Maya makes them swear to it and you my 511 restore.
I pray you to them even this day their lands. Our Vineyards are all of yards and their houses also the hundred part of the money and of the Corn and the wine and the oil that you. Of them then said they we will restore them and will require nothing of them. So will we do as thou sayest Nehemiah?
You're right. We've been oppressing the people here we've been taking advantage of them. We have not been acting lovingly towards them. I'm going to give everything back and the interest to them on what they were doing here. It said turning marriage. It says that couples don't fall out of love so much as they fall out of repentance as a community as a church.
It isn't just about being willing to love each other, but it's been able to say you're sorry. It's about saying I have been taking from you and I come to you today and I haven't told you in a long time that I appreciate what you're doing or I haven't helped you in any time. I haven't come to you and say how can I help carry your burden?
I know that you've been carrying this burden you and your family's been carrying this burden for some time and I haven't come to you and offered how I could help. Will you forgive me? Or I know that you've been walking away from God and I see you straying from God in the things of church. Would you forgive me for not calling you sooner?
It's not about just falling out of love is falling out of. Repentance there and that's what they did here who have the same teaching Ephesians? 4:28. Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him Labour working with his hands the thing which is good that they may have to give to him that needeth so it's not only stop doing what is wrong but it says start doing what would be the opposite of that and it's start being a loving and caring person and helping other people restoration needs to be made to us husbands who have taken and taken from our wives with no concern for their happiness.
We need to stop we know that asked for forgiveness and we need to start investing and giving of our time and everything that we are to them for those of us that let people service and Ministries inside and out of the church, and we never get involved. We need to go and say I want to stand with you and do this work.
And so what's the results are not walking in the fear of God? It always comes back to this verse number 9 also I said it is not good that you that you do aren't you to not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the Heathen are enemies. So it's neat to me thus in the Bible how a major Doctrine gets brought up.
So if we're talking about humility and you're not being a humble person you find up the. The Incarnation is brought up in how Jesus came and lived a life here on Earth and took on flesh. You're like, well, that's a little extreme or when Peter and Paul is talking and they're dealing with this area of the racism and not loving the gentile people.
He says, do you even understand justification? And so now there's a group of people and they're not treating each other, right? And he says, do you even fear God it escalates kind of quickly doesn't it? Because it always goes back to a doctrinal understanding of who God is and so are. Problems one another if there are any I'm not reacting here today was just going through the Bible here.
But any of the problems that you might be dealing with internally inside of the church or inside of your family you have to say, where is it in my heart that I need to do business with the Lord. Stop looking at the circumstances. Stop reviewing the vent that made you mad because that's not where the problem is going to be found.
They did not walk in the fear of God, they mistreated their brother and the outside world sold saw this and it was a reproach unto their enemies in order to the outside world heard about this. They weren't working in it. At least they saw that the wall wasn't being built anymore. Those naysayers on the outside.
They said they must we must be doing some good now. We wanted the wall to stop and the wall of been stopped but they didn't even they weren't even the ones that made it stop. It happened on the inside, but it doesn't matter to the enemy while we stop right. It doesn't matter if they stop us or if we stop ourselves as long as we don't go forward on the mission that God's given us.
It doesn't matter what stops us here. There's a great quote. I love it. It says the church is the only institution that exists. Primarily for the benefit of those who are not its members. I think there's truth to that and I really like him but that's not complete in itself. Right? Because even though we exist for those outside of these walls, the Bible tells us in Galatians 6:10 as we have therefore opportunity.
Let us do good unto all men especially unto them who are of the household of faith if you have put your faith and trust in Jesus, I have a greater responsibility to you than I do to other people in this world. You're my brother. You're my sister in the Bible tells us that we were together together as a church family.
And so when you join a church and not only says this church is going to have some responsibility for oversight in my life. But now I'm making myself accountable to them. And so that's why we encourage and we believe in church membership. So if you have talked about it and you're going that direction, we have a new members launch him at some of you ought to say I want to move forward.
I want whatever this is. I want to be part of it here because we exist for the outside world we exist for Asia and Africa, but we also exist to love and encourage one another and you are made as a Christian to live in this community. When we take our eyes off of God, we focus our attention on ourselves and our wants this causes us to see one another as a means to an end and not Brothers and Sisters in Christ.
So guilty of seeing people as a means to the end so guilty of having a goal that even I think that God's given me and seeing you my brothers and sisters as a means of reaching like goal. That's not what God has planned. For us now love how this chapter and it gives us a personification gives us what would it look like if I would have got it right instead of getting it wrong.
What would it look like in the amount of chapter number 5 out of done things the way that God would want me to do and the Amaya says I'll take care of that one guys because while y'all were all messing up I did things that were right and let me tell you what I did and none of the things that he did aren't things that we couldn't replicate the day.
He does it on a bigger plan, but we can do it on a smaller one. I'm not thinking that any of you are going to serve a hundred and fifty people three times a day. That's Hospitality Way Beyond anything I could imagine but we can live the same way that Nehemiah does what should it look like me and my five and in the life of Nehemiah and Micah chapter number 6 and verse number 8 it says this.
He has showed thee o man. What is good and what doth the Lord require of thee but to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God, what would it look like if you lived in Nehemiah chapter number 5 and you were to do justly and you were to love mercy and you are the walk humbly with God verse number 7.
I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words then I consulted with myself. That should be the life verse for every dad raising small kids right and said I heard the cries and I was very angry with myself, but hopefully you won't forget the next few words where it says I consulted with myself.
I walked out the back door and I walked in circles for a little bit and I went outside and I kicked the tires on my car and I thought about it first thing that Nehemiah does is he consults with his cell? Everybody else is just reacting. It's a Mad Dash It's like a Hunger Games. Everybody's grabbing weapons and resources and they say I'm going to grab whatever weapons resources I can because I don't want to be the only one left out here without anything but not Nehemiah.
He's angry. What's what's going on? But he consults with his self. He looks inside of his heart and he says I know this is what everybody else is doing and I know what this is seems the natural thing to do, but what would God have me to do in this situation? Right here and he consults with the self for those of us who often struggle controlling our emotions.
We are given a good example In this passage. What can we do to be better family members and church members one another where people that get control of our emotions and we don't let them decide how we treat one another. For people that when we feel slighted a little bit we made it out feel respected.
We don't feel appreciated. We just smile and we walk to the other side of the church get a drink from the water fountain and then we come back and say that I'm grateful for opportunities where I've done wrong to have made them right and have stronger friendship. Because of it there and so he consulted with them self thought of others as he received his law to life.
Look at verse number 18 now that which was prepared for me daily was one aux and six Choice sheep also fouls were prepared for me and once in 10 days store all sorts of wine yet for all this required not I of the bread of the governor because the bondage was Heavy upon this people. He had quite the allotment given to him there.
It was prepared for him. He was the governor and as the governor he gets all these things that are hit for him just to take for the to take care of him prepared for me twice that says there. So all these things come in and they say these are all the things that you're going to need as a governor.
You're going to need these animals and you're going to need this inventory because this is just the kind of life that we would expect a person like you to live. Well, he looked at his a lot met here in life than what he was given and he said, you know what that's more than I need. Because I'm just going to be living a life like the rest of these guys and I'm going to be out there working.
So he took in and he helped other people with that you need to be able to allow more people in your lives in your time your energy your money your talents and all that God gave that to you. Not just for your own self consumption he gave you more than you need personally because he gave something to you the supposed to be ministering the somebody else.
So if you live your whole life from paycheck to paycheck and you live schedule from first hour to last hour, you live your whole life and you never have any room for that. You need to ask God to provide more room in your life that allow other people into it here. This is practical power of the fear of God verse 15, but so did not I and why didn't he do this?
Look at verse number 15. Let's read it here with me. But so did not I why because of the fear of God, I don't feel like you guys. Eating with me here. Okay, but so did not I because of the fear of God, why is everybody else acting like a fool and being selfish? They're not living with the fear of God.
Why didn't the Amaya act justly and help a whole lot of people during his time of this famine because he feared God, maybe we should stop trying to figure out the reason we don't like certain people and check our hearts. Could it be that our lack of walking with the Lord has caused us to be unloving people.
It's a strong question, but one that must be. Ask did his share of the work verse number 16 another characteristic in the Amaya verse 16. Ye also I continued in the work of this wall. Neither bought we any land and all my servants were gathered the other unto the work. He said I just stayed busy about the work.
Everybody else is getting greedy and try to take advantage of one another. I know that I'm here to build a wall. And that's not often things. We see right many times people in the influencer people may be many times in politics people that have the leverage they have the authority in the Life.
They're looking how to take advantage when Nehemiah said no, even though I've been given power of influence. I'm going to use it all the see this wall built and then it ends here with this all dayss prayer that he prays and you say Nehemiah. Are you sure you want to say this? It's recorded here for us in his journals and the guy gives it to us here before.
I read this to you. I want to remind you. This isn't Nehemiah bragging the Millard and me here. He isn't bragging and so I just want to tell everybody how great a guy is. He's saying this to the god of heaven so you don't say things in your prayer to God that aren't true. Right? I would encourage you if you if you feel like you're doing that if you write out your prayers to God, you'll see it's hard to lie the him in your prayers listen to what nehemiah's able to say.
And this is as we leave here today. This is what every one of us ought to be able to say this. It says verse 19 think upon me my God for good according to all that I have done for this people is a man of integrity knowing he was living right with a fear of God that was able to say when everybody else was being selfish and greedy God.
I did write to your people. I treated them, right. We should be glad that God took his Personal Diary in Nehemiah and gave it to us. It shows us that a leader must first lead by example and that Nehemiah could tell others to do what was right here because he had walked in the way that was right.
His public words and private actions said the same thing, you know, if you love God, you're going to love this people if you tolerate God and his work, you're going to tolerate people if you hate God then you're going to hate God's people. I have no expectation that any of you came in here the day like Saul unconverted the came to persecute the church and said I hate God and I hate God's people but from that Baseline that bottom right there all the way the saying I love God, so I love God's people there's a lot of room and maybe you tolerate the things of God and your tolerance for the things of God has allowed you to tolerate people but let's reverse that right?
If a equals B, then b equals a which means that if we just have a tolerance. And we just have them we don't have a love for one another. We don't have a real concern for one another then we got to say God is this coming from the fact that I'm not walking in the fear of the Lord because I believe we see very clearly in the you my chapter number 5 now the problem comes from a lack of walk in the fear of the Lord and the right example came from somebody walking in the fear of the Lord.
So ING with the statement that was said at the beginning before we pray how we treat other people's always determined by what we think about God. How is your treatment of other people telling you what you think about God today won't you answer that question. Now as we pray I'm going to pray for you.
But what's most important that's going to happen is that you're going to pray to God if you're in here the day and you don't know Jesus Christ, then you don't know love. You have there's no earthly example. That's anywhere near what Jesus Christ did for you and the Bible tells us that we're able to love God because he first loved us and then it tells an incredible story here of Jesus coming to Earth and dying for us and why did Jesus died upon a cross because you're a sinner and I'm a sinner.
And that we have no right to stand before a holy God in that sin, but his love for us cause an action his love caused an action and that's what we're saying. The Believers in here. Believers are saying our love for God ought to cause an action for God so loved the world that he gave his only son. I love the Lord and because of that I want to give my life for brothers and sisters if you're in here the day and you do not know Jesus Christ as your savior.
We love you and we want to express to you the love that God has for you. So the way we do that here is when we go to print a moment while close her eyes and bow our heads and a piano will begin the play. We just ask that you get up and head to the back of the auditorium and somebody will be there to greet you a man would greet you if your man or lady would meet you there.
If you're a lady take you to a private room and answer any questions that you have in church family, you know how your social. There's times that God moves upon your heart and he says come to an altar and when God does that we never say no right? Sometimes we pray but those other times we says you need to respond in a way that causes you to move because where you're sitting and where you're acting you need to move away from that and what's a wonderful thing about the Alters its forward in your life.
You move forward and you pray the hill. If you came in here the day as an unbeliever, I pray that you find the love of God. If you're in here the day as a Believer, I pray that you find the love of God and you say God. I'm going to let you shine through me and express your love to some other people.
