I Samuel 16:21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.
It is amazing how God prepares a person to do the ministry He calls them to do. At the beginning of this chapter, I Samuel 16:1 Samuel is sent to anoint the next king over Israel. That king will be David.
Samuel anoints David, and the Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. Meanwhile, at the palace, King Saul is beginning to deal with an evil spirit that is troubling him.
The suggestion is made that he find a person who can play the harp very well. They think that the music will calm him down when the evil spirit comes on him.
It just so happens that one of the servants knows David. He tells them that David is very skilled as a harp player. Not only is he good on the harp, but he is already a man of war. He knows how to carry himself wisely, and most of all, the Lord is with David.
Saul sends for David to come. David shows up at the palace with gifts from his dad for the king. Saul loved David.
David will shadow Saul now. This time with Saul will be indirect teaching of how to run the palace. He will see Saul in the palace and on the battlefield as he will be his armor-bearer.
Isn’t it amazing how God is working behind the scenes preparing the man for the mission He has for David? Now you can see this and realize that God is at work in your life, preparing you to serve Him wherever He is calling you.
