Listening for the Lord’s voice

I Samuel 3:8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

Samuel didn’t know what God’s voice sounded like. He was not accustomed to hearing from God as of yet in this story. Eli must have thought that the kid was dreaming. It took Eli till the third time to catch on.

As I read this story, it makes me think about myself and how easily I recognize the Lord talking to me. Do I listen? Do I pay attention? That brings up the question, how does God speak to me.

He speaks to us through His Word as we read it and meditate on it. Do you have a time set aside to listen to God? Do you have a daily prayer and Bible time?

He speaks to us through His Word as we listen to preaching and teaching. Are you faithful to be in church and focus on what is happening in the service? God wants to talk to you. Are you paying attention?

He brings to memory things from His Word that He has shown you at other times. You have read and heard, but now He will cause you to remember at just the right time. Are you paying attention?
