John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

The religious leaders of Israel could only see Jesus as a regular man. He was making it abundantly clear that He was God. The “false spiritual” people reminded Jesus that they were Jews and the descendants of Abraham. Jesus could not make them free because they had always been free.

Jesus told them that if they committed sin, then they were not free but rather the slave of their sin. As slaves or servants, they had lost their position as sons. Jesus told them that they hated him and wanted to kill him because they rejected His teaching.

Jesus scolded them, saying that the children of Abraham would do the works of Abraham. Instead, they wanted to kill Him. The lost religious leaders then blamed Jesus for being born of fornication as they mocked Him.

The more Jesus preached, the angrier, the religious leaders got. Jesus made it clear that He knew what Abraham would think. Abraham had been delighted to see Jesus. They then remind Jesus that he is less than fifty years old. Abraham could never have seen Jesus.

Jesus tells them that they do not understand. Jesus was alive before Abraham. That is wild. Jesus is not a teacher or a prophet. He is eternal. He was alive before Abraham. You that believe in Jesus are worshipping and serving the Eternal One.
