Joshua 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Joshua called the two and a half tribes that had chosen their land on the other side of Jordan. He commends them for keeping their word in helping their brothers win their possessions. They had obeyed God. God had told them that they could have the land on the other side of Jordan if they would enter Jordan and fight with their brothers till the end. Now God had given His people rest. The two and a half tribes will be allowed to return to their homes on the other side of Jordan.

His last instructions are that they are to continue to obey the commandments, the law God had given His people through Moses. They were charged to love God and walk in His ways. They were to serve God with all their heart and soul.

These are proper instructions for all of us. God has given us rest through the victory of Jesus on the cross. We need to be careful to continue to love and serve God. We need to determine that we will cleave to Him, stick to Him with all that is in us. We need to be serving God with our whole heart and soul.
