Depressed and Discouraged

Joshua 7:7 And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

Achan had sinned against God taking what the prohibited. Joshua and moved forward without consulting the Lord. The people of God had lost in battle. Instead of victory, they had to deal with thirty-six men dying. The people are discouraged. Joshua is in shock. How could this have happened? He asks himself.

He blames God. Why did God bring them here if He was going to abandon them? Why did God bless if His only plan was to destroy them? Joshua is sure that they should never have ventured forth. They would have been better off.

The real truth was that there was sin in the camp. Even Joshua had forgotten to seek the Lord. Isn’t this the way it works. We sin and blame God for bad things happening in our lives. I want to change. I want to honor God.
