Joshua 4:24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
Joshua had led the nation of Israel to the Jordan River. After the people were across the river, God wanted them to have a reminder. They built a monument from twelve stones. This monument was to be used to tell their children what God had done in their lives. They had also placed a memorial of twelves stones in the middle of the river.
The river had parted when the priest’s feel entered the river. Now, as the priests came out of the river, the waters returned to their place. God had dried up the river before His people. God had worked a miracle. He never wanted His people to forget.
The real reason behind parting the river was so that the world might know that God was with them. God wanted all to know that He is mighty. God wanted the world to realize that He is God and to respect and reverence Him forever.
At a minimum, His people Israel should never forget to love and worship Him. Do you realize that God has done many things in your life so that you will know Him for who He is? He wants your love, respect, reverence, and obedience. Do you recognize Him for who He is?
