Deuteronomy 9:5 Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Sometimes we think that God does something to us or for us because we are good and deserve the blessing. Here God tells Israel that He had blessed them but not because of their goodness but because He wanted to get rid of the wicked nations. God wanted a people in the land that would love Him, respect, and obey Him.

That is a negative take on the blessings. Not because I am good you ask. not because I deserve it but you have other plans and reasons.

Biblical Christians can never be proud because they do not deserve anything that they get. They need to remember this truth continually. If I know I do not earn something; then I can’t get bitter when I don’t get it. I can be grateful for anything that I have. Be careful not to think too much of yourself.
