Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
How do you want to be treated? Do you like to feel respected and appreciated? Do you appreciate kindness extended your way? Do you wish people would smile a bit more?
All these questions are asked not to see what others should do but what I should do. There is that person at church that doesn’t seem to appreciate you. Typically what we do is treat people like they are treating us. If they are kind then so are we. If they are controlling we rebel against their control and if anything, we wish to find a way to control them
This is just the way we are. Most of us live like thermometers than thermostats. We feel what is going on around us and respond accordingly. We do not set the temperature. We adjust our attitudes to those around us.
Jesus told His disciples not to do that. He told them to treat people the way they wanted to be treated. He said that this was the teaching of the Old Testament. So however you would like to be treated today you should treat your spouse, your friend, the clerk at the store or whoever just that way. You will be surprised how they will respond to you.
