Isaiah 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with his arm, And carry them in his bosom, And shall gently lead those that are with young.
I love the picture of how the shepherd cares for his sheep. This shepherd is the Lord Himself. I should be able to see what He will do and learn a little about what I am to do as the shepherd of His flock. The pastor of the New Testament Church is a shepherd.
First, it says He will feed His flock. I need to dedicate myself to getting good Bible truth ready for God’s people. The Bible is our food. It is like milk for the newborn and meat for the mature. We should be strong teachers of His Word to His people.
Next, He gathers them in His arms. What a picture of love I see here. He carries them in His bosom. I need to be careful to be kind to God’s people. I should be loving. I should be expressive of that love. I should be gentle with them. He was taking them to His bosom. He was holding them in His arms.
Then He gently leads those that are with young. He doesn’t rush them. He isn’t short with them. He understands their condition. He is a gentle, kind and good leader. He cares for His sheep.
As I read this today, I know that I must work at being a better pastor. I must love His people., I must be kind. I must be gentle and patient. I must understand them and where they live.
