Esther 6:7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honour,
Haman can only think of one person, so every conversation has to be about him. He is so angry that Mordecai is not showing him respect. No matter how well other things are going, he can’t be happy. He so focused on this one person, this one thing that he doesn’t see different things.
When the king mentions that he wants to honor someone he figures it has to be him, who else? He immediately begins to think of what he wants. Not so it could happen to another but because he literally believes that it is about him.
You are supposed to be stuck on one person, but that one person is the Lord Jesus Christ. We do not need to think less of ourselves but rather to think of ourselves less. The old adage from my childhood was that joy was spelled, Jesus first, others second, and yourself last. Haman obviously had not been in a Sunday school class like mine.
Sin is a person doing their own thing. It is a person getting out of God’s way and into their own. Are you guilty of this? Do you see this taking place in your life? Are you ready to turn your eyes away from yourself and on to Him?
Thinking so much of yourself will only lead to hurt. You can’t win unless you change. Regarding God remember that the way to win is to lose. The way up is down. The way to wholeness is brokenness. The way to live is to die. The way to get is to give. Everything is backward from what you would think and what the world would teach.
