Esther 3:5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
Haman had been lifted to a high position. He was a little man hung up on his status. Mordecai was a Jew and had made that known. Haman was from a people that were the mortal enemies of the Jews.
Haman saw that Mordecai refused to honor him publicly. He wanted all to bow to him. He and his men had reminded people that not to honor Haman was to disobey the king.
Haman became extremely angry when Mordecai refused to honor him. The men were locked in a battle just like their nations had been for centuries. Haman will try to destroy all of the Jewish people. God will protect them as He has all through history.
As a leader are you a little man seeking recognition. I struggle with that. Pride wants me recognized. Vanity wants to be appreciated. Someone said that everyone’s favorite word is their name. I am not sure that is true but pretty close.
Real leadership is service and humility. Why do we so seek recognition? Why is our honor such a big thing to us? Bow to me or else we say. Remember my title. Remember my position.
Be careful not to become a Haman. That attitude leads to destruction.
