Nehemiah 10:28 And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;
Separation is a hard topic for God’s people to deal with. It seems negative, proud, and legalistic. Separation is exemplified in this verse. You can learn what God means when He tells us to live separate lives. Separation is both from and unto in the above verse. Separation means choosing one over the other.
God’s people separated themselves from the people of the land. They chose to walk away from the strange gods of those people. When they mixed with the people of the land their hearts clove to the gods, the idols, of the nations.
Separation wasn’t meant negatively but positively. They left, separated from and then unto the law of God. They chose God’s law over the people of the land and their gods.
When you separate you choose one over the other. You choose God over sin. You decide right over wrong.
When a person marries they say no to all but one. They say yes to one. That is separation.
Have you chosen God over all else? Have you separated from sin to holiness?
