I Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
I took this picture in Arequipa, Peru while on a tour of Santa Catalina. It was the first picture that came to mind when I was reading and writing this post. Jesus crucified. What a horrible picture we have before us. We know that He is no longer on a cross. He died, was buried, and then rose again from the dead. He lives now seated at the right hand of the Father.
When Paul spoke to the very wise of the world, he didn’t do so using all the excellent learning and training he had had. He didn’t talk metaphysics or any other high sounding words. He merely told them about Jesus and how He had died for them. He spoke to them about the person of Jesus Christ. He explained how Jesus was God in human flesh dying on a cross for all that had sinned. He explained that they could be saved if they would but believe Him.
As you teach or preach, it is Jesus and Jesus alone that saves. He alone can change lives. Don’t be afraid to be simple and to preach Jesus.
