Nehemiah 9:19 Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
They had made an idol, a golden calf, yet He was still good to them. They had shown great disrespect and rebellion, but He is God of “manifold mercies!”
What does manifold mean? Manifold means many, a great deal, numerous, abundant, excess, etc. It many many different kinds, many in number, multiplied.
God has so much mercy that we struggle to understand and discuss it. He doesn’t give us what we deserve. Anyone would have expected annihilation from a normal god but not the God of the Bible. He is too good for that.
After they mocked Him by making a false god, He showed His mercy by leading and protecting them day and night. He used the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. In a dark world without modern conveniences, He gave them light. Without the aid of modern navigational tools, he showed them the way.
He is a good God. He is God full of mercy, all sorts of mercy. His mercy is great. His mercy is shown abundantly and even to excess. His mercy presents itself in all kinds of ways.
He loves you. He offers you salvation, life. He provides you not only life as in existence but abundant life, blessed life. Have you trusted Him as your Savior? Do you have the witness of His Spirit with your spirit that you are indeed born again? Are you loving and serving Him? Are you enjoying all He has for you?
