Nehemiah 8:3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.
As they brought out the Book of God, the people gathered. They wanted to be there. They wanted to hear from God. They stood long hours in the sun to listen to what God’s Word said. Everyone was there that was old enough to understand. The people listened attentively.
This verse should be motivation to consider how I listen in every church service as the Scriptures are opened, read, and explained.
First I should be in a church that makes big over the Bible. I should be in a church that teaches and preachers not morality, not personal opinion, not church dogma but what the Bible says. A careful reading and understanding of what God actually says.
Second I should be cautious to be listening and paying attention. I need to focus on the message. I need to be there to hear, learn, understand, and apply the truth to my life. This is not a Sunday ritual but a seeking of God and His will.
How is your church attendance? How is your attitude while you are at church? Are you paying attention?
