Nehemiah 8:1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
This is one of my favorite chapters ever. The people gathered to hear from God. They spoke to Ezra and asked him to bring the book. The book was the law of Moses, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. They knew that the book was what the Lord had commanded for His people Israel.
I believe that today people still want to hear from God through His Book. I think they know when the pastor is offering them psychology or a pep talk. God’s men are not to be success motivators. They are to share the truth that God commanded for His people to know.
So look for a church that has a real basis of authority. Look for a church where the Bible is read, studied, preached, and explained clearly. Come to church with your personal copy of the Bible. Open it. Follow along to make sure the preacher is saying what the Bible says. Put in practice what you are learning. Let God work in your life through the Book, His Word, the Bible.
