Nehemiah 6:12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
A “man of God” had come to condemn Nehemiah and his work. Nehemiah wanted to respect true men of God. He had to try the spirits to see if they were of God. Just because someone says that are from God doesn’t mean that they are. Just because someone looks the part doesn’t mean it is true. Nehemiah evaluated the man and his message. He understood that this preacher was not from God. It became clear to Nehemiah that this preacher had been hired by the wicked enemies of God to discourage Nehemiah and make him afraid.
The lesson here is that you do not believe everything you hear. The truth is that you decide to check and measure everything by what the Word of God says,. You can not even trust yourself and what you think or feel. You must go by the Word of God.
Also, you can not trust your feelings or your thoughts. You need to sit back and think logically about whether or not the thoughts or feels are in line with the truth of the Word of God. If not you must reject them. Think the truth. Don’t fall for fake news or fake preachers!
