Nehemiah 4:17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
Most of us do not like conflict. We want to avoid it at all costs. We love the idea of constructing, building. We hate the idea of fighting or defending. Nehemiah is busy building a wall. He has no desire to be involved in conflict and argument. He just wants to do a work for God. But he teaches us a lesson that we all need to learn. To stand for something you have to be against something. To do something means you don’t do other things.
Nehemiah’s men are having to build and battle. They are having to use a trowel in one hand and sword in the other. It is about fighting off all who would hinder the work that God wants done. There are always those that would stop God’s work.
So will you take a stand for God and against what God is against. If you stand for truth, you have to be against the lie. Put Jesus first. That means other things get second place or no place at all. Get in the fight for right. Stand for truth. Do something with your life but do not try to be friends with God’s enemies at the same time.
So many of us are too tired of the fight. We don’t want to fight so we allow sin to win. We enable the wrong to prevail. Let’s build but let’s battle too!
