Nehemiah 4:1 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
The enemies of God always seem to want to make fun of the work of God and His workers. When Nehemiah began to build the wall the enemy laughed. The job was too big. The wall would be over 2.5 miles long. Who could do such an enormous task? They were angry that Nehemiah would attempt anything at all. They laughed at him because they didn’t believe that he would be able to get it done.
That is what happens when you tell folks you are saved and on your way to heaven. They don’t like it that you would say or attempt such a thing. It makes them uncomfortable as they think of their own condition. Then they laugh at you because they know no one can really be so certain of what happens after death.
If you decide to serve God full time with your life, then they will be angry about that also. They will not want you “wasting your life!” They will mock you and your family if you even consider such a thing. Being a foreign missionary will provoke even more ridicule.
So just know that what you are suffering for loving and serving Jesus is nothing new. It was happening in the days of Nehemiah and will continue to happen until Jesus comes again.
