Nehemiah 13:28 And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
This Eliashib has become so wicked that his best friends are the enemies of God. He is the high priest. He should stand for God. He had slowly moved from a place of faithfulness and loyalty to God to this point. He became friends with Tobiah. He moved Tobiah into the house of God. Tobiah and Sanballat worked together to stop the work of God.
Now Eliashib has progressed downward so much that his son marries the daughter of God’s enemy. Nehemiah chases them from him.
We need to be so careful. Sin creeps in on us. It takes over slowly, so slowly we hardly notice its progression. It starts with a clear stand for God. Then it moves to not being so vocal and certain about our position. Then we make overtures of friendship. Then we become such friends that our families intermarry with the very enemies of God.
Where are you on this scale? Have you slowly begun to doubt the Word of God? Are you not so vocal about believing the Bible like you once were? Do you want to be accepted and respected so much that you make little compromises with the very enemies of God?
It is time to take a stand as Nehemiah did. We need to make it clear that we believe Bible truth. We stand on the principles of the Word of God.
