Getting rid of the evil

January 8, 2019 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Nehemiah 13:7 And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.8 And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.9 Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.

Tobiah has moved into the house of God. Evil has been allowed a place in the courts of the Lord. The man of God, Eliashib, has compromised. He has turned a room designed for the things of God into a place where the enemy of God can live.

Nehemiah was out of town. He arrives and finds out what the man of God has done. He is very hurt and sad that any of God’s men could sink that low, especially the very high priest of God.

Nehemiah throws Tobiah and all of his stuff out of the house of God. He then sets about to cleanse and dedicate the things of God to God again. He throws evil out and replaces it with God’s will.

How are you dealing with sin in your life? Do you see the wicked horribleness of sin? Are you willing to throw it out? Are you replacing sin with service to God? Are you turning from sin and to God?

Something inside of you should be broken when you see sin and rebellion being openly accepted in the house of God. Your heart should cry out to God. You should take steps to remedy the problem. Make much of Jesus and rid your life of sin.
