Extremely sad

Nehemiah 2:10 When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

Nehemiah is rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem. Two people are agitated that Nehemiah is working for the good of the children of Israel. Meet Sanballat and Tobiah. They do not want anyone to help God’s people. It makes them very sad. This great sadness is going to cause them to hinder the work of God.

They start by mocking Nehemiah and the team of men that have come to rebuild the wall. They tried to make them see how difficult the job would be. They accused them of rebelling against the very king that had sent them. They merely wanted to stop the work of God.

Tobiah will later say that even if they do build the wall, it will be a weak wall. It will be so poorly done that a fox could push it over. He said it was simply a rock wall.

The more the work was accomplished the madder they got. They even hired people to try and discourage God’s people.

There will be more tomorrow about Tobiah. I want you to realize that there have always been people that did these exact things against the work of God. You should not be surprised that people do not want you to follow after God and His will entirely. You should realize that these enemies of God will try to hinder you. They will mock you. They will try to discourage you because they will claim you have wrong motives. They will say that what you are doing is of no real value. They will do all they can to discourage you.

So make up your mind to keep your eyes on Jesus. Do not allow Satan to hinder or discourage you. Let your life be used to accomplish God’s purposes for you.
