Mark 16:14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
Sometimes our hearts are so hard that they surprise us. We think we are listening. We believe we are paying attention. We think we believe but in the crucial moment we waver, we doubt, we fail.
The disciples had heard the truth. They knew what to believe. They could probably have recited His words to us, but that didn’t help in that crucial moment. Now they have seen Him crucified. They have watched Him die. They have seen Him buried.
Then along comes some ladies saying that Jesus is alive. How can they believe what they know isn’t possible. It must be wishful thinking. It can’t be right.
I understand Jesus scolding them. I also appreciate them and how they felt. So many times I know what is true, but in the moment I forget. I do not act on what I know. I am ashamed of myself, but it is the truth.
God help my unbelief. Help me believe you and trust you. Help me live in faith. Help me have victory based on your Word, not my feelings or what I can see and touch. Help me believe you.
