Esther 1:20 And when the king’s decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
The king asked his wife Vashti to come out and parade her beauty before his men. He wanted her to dance before them. She refused. The men of the kingdom got together and wrote a decree that demanded that all women obey their husbands. They not only had to obey but to honor. It didn’t matter if the husband was a famous person or a poor person. Men were to be honored by their wives.
So often even today men act like this. They demand honor, respect, and obedience from their wife. They think they have the right to be treated like they want just because of their gender.
This is entirely not the Biblical attitude. Respect and honor should and must be earned. It is not just about the position as some might say. As a young man, you should love and lead Kindly your wife. You should earn her respect. She should follow you because she wants to. Be the kind of man that will make it easy for a woman to obey. She will not even feel like she is obeying. She just loves her husband.
Men complain about how women act, but most of their actions are merely reactions to poor treatment. Jesus did tell the women to submit to their husbands, but He told the husbands to give their lives loving their wives. If a man lived out what Jesus taught in Ephesians 5, there would be no need for a decree from the king.
Love your wife. Honor and protect your wife. You will find that she will love you back.
