II Samuel 6:9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?
Sometimes we get used to God. We think we know Him. We believe we understand Him. We begin to take Him for granted. We see intimacy that takes us beyond reality.
As they brought the ark in, it shook, a man touched it and died. David had gotten to a place of thinking he was in charge. He expected God to act in specific ways that God wasn’t prepared to respond. He may have felt like God was controllable but He is not.
Now someone has died. The unexpected has happened. David is in shock. He never expected that. He is afraid.
I need to remain in awe of God. I need never to forget how great He is. I need to know that He is all powerful and I am super weak and small. I am not in charge. I am always at His mercy. I am dependent. I am not in control. I am His to do with as He sees fit.
