I Samuel 8:5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.
Eli failed in raising his children, so God put Samuel in place instead of Eli’s children. Now Samuel’s children are not doing right. History repeats itself. The people wanted a king. They didn’t want another man of God if he had to be one of Samuel’s children.
How that must have hurt Samuel when he heard it. To have seen the failure of his predecessor and now fall into the same trap must be horrible. The people loved Samuel and agreed that he had been a good man and a good leader. They, however, didn’t trust his children.
We must take raising our children seriously. It hurts our children and us to be rejected because of flawed character. We must teach them and train them. We are preparing them for life. How prepared will your children be if you continue like you are going now?
