Matthew 26:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
Jesus had warned Peter about his pride repeatedly. Peter had promised that he would never deny the Lord Jesus even if the others did. Jesus told Peter that he would be severely tested. Jesus let Peter know that he would indeed deny him.
Now that he had denied Jesus he heard the rooster crow. He remembered what Jesus said. Remembering his pride broke his heart. He began to cry as a broken man.
The Holy Spirit is at work in our lives. He warns us. We hear preaching. We get truth given to us. We often choose to ignore the truth until! Until we fall, we sin, we are made to realize that our pride has indeed lead to a fall.
So much better would be to remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit, to allow Him to convict us, to warn us of sin. Ask God to work and guide in your life. Seek Him. Listen as the Word is spoken and preached that God would work before you have to remember with tears!
