Ezekiel 28:17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Most Bible students believe these verses refer to the origin of Satan. He was lifted up because of his beauty. He was corrupted because he outshone everyone else. His pride will cause him to be destroyed. One day we will see Him crushed under our feet and the feet of the Lord Jesus.
Pride is our biggest problem. We think too much of ourselves. Even if you are critical of yourself, you are still thinking of you. If you think no one likes you, then you are still thinking of you. If you think no one respects you it is because you are thinking of you.
We fall into the same trap as the devil. We are to keep our hearts and minds focused on the Lord Jesus. We are to think on truth, but I always want to fall back to thinking about me. I want to think about how people are treating me. I want to worry about what people think about me. I want to be loved.
Do you see how many times we have used the world “I” in these paragraphs? Too much of me. We, really I, should learn not to think of me. It is not about thinking less of me but not thinking at all about me. Pride will destroy me too!
