Standing against the current

February 26, 2018 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

II Chronicles 17:3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim; 4 But sought to the LORD God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

God blessed Jehoshaphat because he did right. He wasn’t looking to serve false gods. He wanted to please God. He was doing what the Scriptures told him to do. He was not following the culture. He was not doing what was politically expedient. He stood against the current in his day. He chose to do right. God blessed him because he did do right.

This verse is a call for us to realize that we need to please God and not people. We need to do what is right though it makes us stand against the current. We will not be politically correct. People might think us odd, but we want to do what the Lord calls on us to do.

In a day when an unborn baby is a fetus, and people think that it is ok to end its life, we will not go along to get along. In a day when people do not know their gender and are so confused, we will just do what we know the Scriptures teach. In a day when marriage is not honored, we will value marriage.

This stand will not be politically expedient. It will not be culturally accepted, but it is to God. We must decide not to do what all others are doing. We march to the beat of a different drummer.
