Parental influence

I Kings 22:52 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:

He did evil in the sight of the Lord. That is bad enough, but the next part of the verse screams at me. He was following the example set by his father and mother. He continued doing the same sins that they liked so much.

Jeroboam had introduced idol worship as a part of worshipping the God of the Bible. His descendants continued to do the same thing. It didn’t matter what the parent said it weighed more what they did.

What example am I leaving as a parent? What will they mimic from the life I model. How will their relationship with God be based on what they have seen, heard, and learned from me?

Being a parent is an awesome responsibility. It should put the fear of God in us.
