Ruth 4:6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.
It was the responsibility of the kinsman redeemer to redeem. He should be concerned about his brother’s name and not his possessions. This redeemer turns down the chance to redeem. He was more concerned about his own than his responsibility. He couldn’t help because he didn’t want to help.
How often do you fall into this selfishness trap? I know I do way too much. I think about me and how what I am doing will affect me. The redeemer was to be focused on others and not himself. Real ministry is sacrificial service. It is about others and their needs. It is not about building my name but the name of others.
So who are concerns you? Are you here to serve and make others a success? Is it time to worry about Him and His kingdom and ourselves?
