Numbers 11:11 And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
Moses was the man God called to be the leader of the nation of Israel. I am sure that it was a fantastic job much of the time, but there were times when it wasn’t so much fun. At this point in the story, it was a burden. Moses felt like God was punishing him instead of blessing him. The people Moses led were apparently complicated to lead. They were always complaining, whining, rebelling, accusing, fighting among themselves.
What a privilege it is to pastor people who love God and His work! I thank God that He has blessed me with this type of people for the most of my ministry. I have been privileged to lead the sweetest and kindest people ever.
It is still a burden, however. To love people cost any and all. To be with them in their times of hurt hurts. To be with them in their sadness is sad. Being with them in the high times is terrific too!
Being a pastor of a New Testament church is much different than this story. A pastor leads people who choose to be there. If he is giving them the Word of God, then they are usually going to grow and be happy. I, personally, love pastoring.
