The substitute

Leviticus 16:22 And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited: and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.

All through the Old Testament, we are learning the same lesson. It is a substitute, a lamb, a goat, another animal, that takes our place. In this verse, the goat is carrying the sin into the wilderness. You know the story, the leadership had placed their hands on the goat’s head. They had confessed their sins over the goat. The goat, now all alone, goes away into the wilderness.

This is a picture of what happens with us. We confess our sins, our sin, and the Father puts our sins on Jesus. Jesus takes our sins away from us. Jesus pays our sin debt. If I am saved, it is all Jesus. If you have life, it is because He took your death.

Thank God that He in mercy wrote a plan of salvation that He, Himself, would do it all. He carried our sins. He died in our place.
