What a good God

January 1, 2018 By Austin Gardner Leave a Comment

Exodus 34:6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, 7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
Read these verses carefully. Notice what Moses and the children of Israel knew about God all the way back then. When God was giving the ten commandments, they knew this. What did they know? The God of the Old Testament was full of mercy. He was gracious, showing grace, all the way back in the days of the law. He was patient, long-suffering. He was abundant in goodness and truth. That means He had a massive supply of goodness. God was the kind to keep mercy, to forgive blatant sin. He would not just let sin go. He would judge it if they refused to come for forgiveness. But if they would but come for forgiveness He would forgive. Are you hard set on your sin and rebellion? Or are you willing to seek forgiveness? If you will seek Him, He will forgive you and show you grace and mercy. Photo by Neill Kumar on Unsplash
