Genesis 35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: 3 And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
Jacob was ready to seek God. He had been running from God in many ways. As they prepare to meet with God, he gives his family instructions. The main thing that they are to do is to put away their strange gods. The girls had brought strange gods from their dad’s house. It was time to turn from that false worship to the real God.
In Bethel, Jacob plans to build an altar. He will worship the God that answered him in the day of his distress. God had been with Jacob, and now he would worship that one and only true God.
God is meeting your needs and has been. It is time to turn to Him and dedicate himself to the God that answers prayer. Put away the things that do not please God. Seek and honor Him today!
