Genesis 17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
Abraham so wanted to see God’s promise to him come true. He just doubted whether or not God could fulfill His promise. God had promised a son. Both Abraham and Sarah were now so old that they couldn’t understand how God could do such a miracle.
Abraham desires that God just use Ishmael since he knew that Sarah couldn’t have a child. Abraham couldn’t see beyond their bodies. He couldn’t see beyond the circumstances. He wanted to offer God a solution.
God refused the solution and gave them their son, Isaac just like He had promised. God does the impossible. That is His specialty.
The most beautiful part of this story is that when Paul writes about it in Romans God told Paul to state that Abraham never doubted, never considered his body, never considered the circumstances. What a great God of grace that overlooks our foolish, weak faith. What a great God that loves you like He loved Abraham.
You should learn to enjoy loving and serving a God like God. He is worthy of our praise and love!
