Genesis 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
Mankind determined to rise to godlike status. They wanted to be famous. They wanted to make a name for themselves. God wanted them to recognize Him and make His name great. Instead, they look for how to climb up into the heavens to know God. That wasn’t necessary since God had made them and already come down to them.
To hinder their collaboration in doing their will instead of God’s will God confused their language. He made them all speak different languages similar to how we know them today. These languages make marked differences between us. We are unable to communicate well.
Our real desire should be to lift up God not ourselves. Our real desire should be to talk together about doing something to get the gospel to the world. Now languages hinder the spread of the gospel message. We have to learn the language and the culture to be able to understand people and communicate the gospel.
Maybe you would consider learning a language and culture to carry the gospel of Jesus to the world. They want to know God but do not know how. They want to be God but can’t so need to learn the truth.
