Matthew 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
How to pray, that is the question! You have been to all sorts of prayer meetings. Some get really loud while others are quiet. Some are super charged with emotion while others sound like they could be prayed at the funeral home. What does Jesus say about how we are to pray?
First in this verse is that it is not by saying something over and over. So no real value in praying the rosary or much of what Baptists do either. We will ask for the same thing over and over in the same prayer. It is as though we think that we must convince Him to answer. He said I don’t need to hear it over and over. It is not about the words any way. Words can be empty.
It is not about much speaking. So it is not about saying a lot to get God to hear. He hears and understands what you are saying. There are no magic formulas. There is no right way to say it. Just talk to God like as though He is a real person and is really there.
He is your Father if you are saved. He wants to hear from you. He wants to answer your prayers and meet your needs. Just talk to Him and quit worrying about the right words, the right way, and just talk to Him.
