Jeremiah 18:6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Well if you read yesterday’s post then you saw to be careful to get the context of a verse. Today we see a verse about the potter and the clay. That is so often used in verses about God’s power over us. Which He most definitely has.
But notice that this verse is talking about the house of Israel, not an individual. God wants Israel to know that He is God and that He rules in the affairs of men. He is letting them know that they didn’t build their nation but He did.
The interesting thing is that this is the verse quoted in Romans 9 that is so often used to talk about individuals. The context again refers to God and His relationship to Israel.
This passage or truth at least is discussed in Isaiah 45. In that passage also the context is nations. I challenge that as you study you do your own study. I challenge you to look up the verses and think for yourself. Do not ask anyone. Do not consult books. Just ask yourself if the context is the nations of Israel, Judah, Esau or Edom, etc.
It is important that you know for yourself what the Scriptures are talking about. Read the Bible and just accept it with childlike faith. Let God bless you.
