Deuteronomy 13:6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; 7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; 8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: 9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
What a wild and crazy passage of Scripture. We are to love God. We are to stand against all other gods. If your own family or friend were to invite you to love and serve another god you have to stand against them. Not just stand against them but destroy them. They were not to just be tolerant. They were to be loud and clear that they loved and served the God of heaven.
They were not to listen. They were not to protect his or her from others that would judge them. They were not to hide the fact that they believed such foolishness. They were to stand against them even to the point of the penalty of death. They were to be the first in throwing the stone.
This sounds so harsh to people in our day and time but it was God or not. It was love God above all others and be willing to die for Him. It wasn’t just me doing my thing it was the only thing! Do I love God to the point of sacrificing whatever in my love for Him?
