Genesis 19:19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
God has sent His angels to rescue Lot. He will not be destroyed with the wicked city. Instead he is told to escape to the mountain so that he will not be hurt. Lot says that if he goes to the mountain something bad might happen to him.
It is interesting because obviously these men, these angels, have come from God. They were able to deliver him. They were able to destroy the city. It would seem that they would know more about what God wanted than Lot. Lot doesn’t think so.
The big city might have been his problem but the mountain was too far and not what he wanted. He would take a small city, Zoar. He would take what he thought was best but he had no desire to listen to the angels that just saved his life.
How often am I like that? I think I know better than God. I can see how the big city might be a problem but not the small city. I want to leave sin but have no desire to go to that extreme of going to the mountain.
I know what is best for me. I know more than God. I have been plans. I can take care of myself. Really? Really? Could I be that stupid as to ignore God and what He would say to me? I am afraid that I have ben that stupid on many occasions. What about you?
