Luke 20:46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; 47 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
These scribes liked to be noticed. They wore clothes that would call attention to them. They loved being greeted. They wanted honor every where they went because of the position they held. They took advantage of women who no longer had husbands. They loved to pray long and loud so others would hear them. Jesus said that they would be judged harsher than others.
Today many want to be recognized spiritual leaders. They want the privilege of having others notice them. They use their position to take advantage of others. These are not good examples of how God wants our men of God to be and act. Get away from preachers like these described in this passage. Find a church that has a pastor that is not trying to do any of the above.
