Amos 2:4 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, And for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; Because they have despised the law of the LORD, And have not kept his commandments, And their lies caused them to err, After the which their fathers have walked:
I think we want to think that there are no consequences to sin but this verse indicates very clearly that there are. He has been punishing His people, Judah. He punished them because they had no respect for His Word. He punished them because they didn’t live out the faith He taught them, they disobeyed His commandments. They believed lies so that they made big mistakes. They believed what their parents said instead of studying what God said.
Today there are still consequences to sin. When we live lives that do not honor God we, as believers, can expect that there will be consequences. He hates sin because of what it does to us. He warns us. But you can be sure that He will chastise, discipline, or punish us however you want to call it.
We are His children. He has called us to live out what He has put in us!
