Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel and his friends are slaves in Babylon. In many ways their lives are out of their control. No matter where Daniel is or what is happening he wants to do right and honor God.
He makes a decision. He decides and purposes in his heart not to do wrong regardless of the cost. The line he draws in the sand is over the food that would contaminate him. He rejects the wine and the food, probably food that didn’t meet the standards God gave the Jews.
In this chapter he will see how God honors him for making that decision. He will see God do a work in their lives as God honors their decision to honor God.
I want to make decisions that honor God and stand by them regardless of the cost. I want to know what is right and do it. I want to take a stand for the name of my God. Don’t you?
