Our sin affects our children

Esther 9:14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

Our children will not be judged by God for our sins. Each person will answer for their own sins. This does not mean however that our children do not suffer because of our sins.

I am sure that much of my foolishness, my willfulness, my pride and arrogance has affected my children. They learn how to act from me. They get their attitudes from me. I know that my sin did affect them.

In this verse Haman’s sons will be hung. They have not been seen as a part of the problem in this passage. How much they were involved is not clearly stated but they die also.

I must understand that what I do has a direct affect on my children. A friend told me recently that being a parent was trying your hardest for 20 years and apologizing for the next 40 years. I see lots of truth in that statement.

I want to minimize the suffering my sin causes for my children by seeking to do right and honor God.
