Ezra 10:3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
God calls on His people to separate themselves from sin. That is harder than we could ever imagine. In this Bible story we see them putting away their wives. I can’t imagine the pain that had to be felt for that to happen. People they loved that had to be put out of their lives.
You are not being called on to divorce your wife. You are being called on to exam things in your life and even if it hurts to put it away so that you can serve God. You want to put God first. If something keeps you from doing that then you want to take the drastic step of getting it out of your life.
Never think that grace gives us the option of toying with sin. It calls us to a life of more dedication, of greater love. That will mean that we might be turning from things that are very important to us.
Loving God means hating things that are against God. If I love God I will hate what God hates and hate whatever hates God and lifts itself up against God.
