II Chronicles 23:16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the LORD’s people. 17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.
Being the people of God will cause you to make what appear to be very harsh decisions. Jehoiada covenants with the people to be the people of God. I think most of us would read that and be happy. Sounds good. Let’s be positive. Let’s be God’s people but the very next verse says something very harsh.
They then went and destroyed their sin. They destroyed the place of their sin. They destroyed the leader of their sin. They did it vengefully.
Obviously we do not literally destroy people but if you can see the picture you understand that following God means you pull down strongholds. You destroy what will take your mind and heart off of God. You decide to turn to God but that means you turn from sin.
It means you might get rid of things that would pull you away from God and serving Him.
Don’t get so upset like this is extreme. If you choose to love your wife you don’t keep memories and meetings with other girls you had has girl friends before. You turn from them. You don’t sit in your room remembering your prior life you are too focused on your new life.
Love Jesus. Turn from your sin to Him!
