II Chronicles 16:7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand.
The seer came to tell Asa that they had failed because they had relied on a group of people. Often we look to every means and trick that we have in our own arsenal before we turn to the Lord.
If we have someone who we know that can help us we don’t make it so much a matter of prayer. We try to fix all we can and consider prayer to be the last resort.
God makes it clear in this passage that He wants to be relied on. If we turn to our own means He will leave us to our own means. We need to seek Him first. He is where we turn when we have a problem.
Seek Him first just doesn’t mean serving Him but it means expressing our desire for Him and our need of Him.
